Recap
The Cardiff Devils overcame 3 separate deficits to edge out Flames on Spectrum ice by a 4-3 count. Just 52 seconds in Jack Jacome opened the Flames account. Josh MacDonald at 9:01 squared it, but Matt Alvaro about 5 minutes later had Flames holding a margin they would carry into the 2nd. Early in the middle set, Sam Duggan got it to a pair each. Josh Waller nudged Flames in front for a 3rd time, but Ryan Barrow knotted it at 3 before the end of the frame. A Flames penalty that carried over into the 3rd period proved costly for the home team when Riley Brandt converted the powerplay to give the visitors their first advantage of the contest. With about 8 minutes remaining it looked like Lewis Hook pulled Flames even, but with goal waived off without video review, the game resumed with Flames still a goal off the pace. With less than a minute to go, and with Taz Burman on the bench, Devils took a penalty to allow Flames to play 6 men to 4, but they could not find one to force extra time. Gallery |
