November 18th at Dundee Stars - League

On the road, the 2nd of a Scottish double, Flames lost the handle on a 2 goal lead and were edged out at Dundee Stars by a 5-4 count.

Matt Alvaro around the midway point of the opening frame set Flames in front. Despite a couple of late period powerplays including a very short 5 on 3, they were unable extend the advantage.

64 seconds into the middle set, and with Flames still holding a manpower advantage, Ryan Tait did double the difference.  Stars replied to knot the score quickly when Joshua Brittain cut their deficit at 22:47 and levelled in the 25th minute on a powerplay thanks to Ryan Valentini.  At 26:28, a Flames powerplay re-stored a lead when Lewis Hook converted. However, a Drydn Dow extra skater goal just over 2 minutes later squared it again and a Jonathan McBean strike inside the period’s last 5 minutes offered Dundee their first lead which they held into the break.

After a couple of Flames 3rd period powerplays wound down without an equalizer, Stars extended with Valentini’s 2nd of the contest near the period’s midway mark was the winner before a last minute Austin Glover goal with Taz Burman on the bench in favour of extra skater was the final goal of the night.

Burman had 31 stops on 36 shots for the Flames. Kevin Carr turned away 36 of 40 his way.

“Any game, home or away, is disappointing to blow a 2 goal lead,” admitted Paul Dixon.

“When you are on the road and you put yourself in a good position up a couple of goals, you like to think you can convert that to a win.”

“Unfortunately, we made more than one significant defensive error that left Dundee all alone in front with the puck and plenty of time to do something with what could only be defined as exceedingly high quality scoring chances that they made the most of.”

“We get them again tomorrow at home, and we want to be ready to answer this and turn out a win in that one.”
