Recap
Sam Talbot had a pair of goals and Flames led for most of the evening on the way to a 6-3 Cup win over the visiting Manchester Storm. 23 seconds after puck drop, Josh Waller had the home team on the board, but a couple of minutes later a Nick Welsh strike levelled at a goal each. Just over 5 minutes from period time, Talbot’s first of the season nudged Flames back in front and he added another inside the last 2 minutes to send Flames to break up a pair. An early 2nd period Ethan Strang powerplay success extended the lead, but Welsh’s 2nd of the contest during a 5 on 3 manpower advantage cut Storm deficit back to a pair at 26:46 and it stayed that way through 40 minutes. At 42:06, Mathieu Gosselin re-stored the Flames 3 goal spread. Storm cancelled that one out with a Kaleb Ergang reply at 53:12, but a Jack Jacome empty netter with a second to play closed out the scoring. Taz Burman got the decision for Flames with 29 saves on 32 shots. Evan Weninger started for Storm and allowed 4 goals on 15 shots before giving way to Drew DeRidder who conceded a single on the 18 shots his way. Gallery |
