Recap
In Cup action at Coventry Blaze, the hosts and Flames traded unsuccessful OT powerplays before 5 shots each of tiebreaking penalties went 2-1 in favour of Blaze, giving Flames a point but lifting the home team to the same final match winning score. Flames netminder Justin Fazio and Blaze keeper Mat Robson turned away all comers to post a scoreless opening frame. In the 2nd, for the only regulation scoring, Blaze hit the board first with a Grant Mismash powerplay goal at 22:58, but Sean Comrie replied less than 2 minutes later and the level score held up into the final set. Powerplays in the 3rd resulted in nothing for either side including a last minute Blaze advantage and over a minute of 4 on 3 during the overtime session. Flames received the same opportunity just over 2 minutes from penalties and they too were unable to convert before individual tiebreakers and the eventual win thanks to goals by Alessio Luciani and Jere Vertanen were countered only with a Josh Waller conversion. Fazio ended the evening with 32 saves on 33 shots while Robson also conceded just a single on 40 his way. Gallery |
