Recap

A pair of early 3rd period Sheffield Steelers goal, and a quick reply just as Flames pulled back in it, were the difference in a 5-2 Flames defeat while on the road to kick off the Cup schedule.

Steelers had the only goal of the opening frame thanks to Brien Diffley at 15:10 ensuring they would hold the edge to start the 2nd.

Less than 4 minutes into the middle set, Cole Ully opened the Flames account and each team had some powerplay looks through the rest of the set, but 40 minutes came to a close with the clubs still locked on a goal each.

In the 42nd minute, the home team went in front off the stick of Derek Gentile and he added another not long after that to put them 2 goals to the good.  While shorthanded, Jake Coughler gave Flames hope at 51:05 but a reply 53 seconds later by Jordan Southorn and another from Clifford Pu well under a minute after that put the game away for the hosts.

Justin Fazio in his first Flames start turned away 22 of 27 shots against Matt Greenfield who was 34 for 36.
