Coventry Blaze defied a 61-25 shot differential to secure a 5-3 Cup win over the Flames on Spectrum ice. Tyler Busch set the home team to a lead at 8:22, but Grant Mismash levelled dead on the 14 minute mark and the clubs started the middle set square on a goal each. 91 seconds after re-start Michael Pelech offered Blaze their first lead of the contest. Not long after Flames failed to take advantage of an extended 5 on 3 manpower situation, Lewis Hook evened the count at 2, but inside the final minute of the frame Alessio Luciani had Blaze back in front. Just over a minute into the 3rd, Matthew Gleason converted a powerplay to double the Blaze advantage. 45 seconds after that, Cole Ully pulled Flames back to a goal off the pace, but a 52nd minute Sam Ruffin strike ensured a full comeback would not materialize before the end of the evening.
