Recap
Flames collected a Cup table point, but Jordon Southorn scored in the 4th minute of overtime to disappoint the home fans as Sheffield Steelers edged a 4-3 win over the Flames. A 13th minute Jake Coughler goal set Flames in a lead they held through the first break. Steelers tied it 49 seconds after re-start off the stick of Mikko Juusola. About 5 minutes later, Flames jumped to a 2 goal advantage with Cole Ully and Josh Waller strikes just 10 seconds apart but an immediate Steelers reply from Dominic Cormier at 27:03 then Samuel Tremblay a couple of minutes later had it level again at 3 each and it stayed that way into the final set. In the final frame, former Flame netminder Eamon McAdam and Justin Fazion of the current variety faced a nearly even split of 17 shots with no further scoring before tiebreakers were needed. In the extra set Flames were forced to kill a penalty for nearly the opening two minutes and did so before almost taking their own win ahead of the heartbreaking decider near the end of the extra stanza. Fazio had 35 saves on 39 shots while McAdam was just as busy, but was good on 36. Gallery |
