Brett Ferguson scored a pair of powerplay goals and Eamon McAdam pitched a shutout to lift the Flames to a 2-0 home ice win over Fife Flyers.
The only goal of the opening set came off the stick of Ferguson during a 14th minute powerplay to give his side a lead at the break.
In the 2nd, the clubs evenly split 6 powerplays and on the final one with Flames enjoying the extra man extra, Ferguson converted just 24 seconds from period time with his 2nd of the contest to take Flames through 40 minutes holding the 2 goal cushion.
A powerplay each in the final stanza, and a stretch of 4 on 4 play, didn’t produce a goal in either direction, and Flames skated through the remainder of the contest turning the earlier margin to the clean sheet win.
“Right from the net out, we got a strong showing from everyone,” said Paul Dixon.
“We had some really good early pressure so it would have been nice to spread our lead a little more rather than play under nailbiter conditions all night, but you have to be able to find a way to win the tight ones.”
“With only one game, it was crucial to post a win so we are glad the powerplay recorded some scoring and Eamon was solid on some good Fife chances to help preserve a huge result.”
