Jones joins D group
27 Year-old Great Britain national team Defenceman Sam Jones will join the Flames blueline group with immediate effect. The 6’2”, 190lb skater spent the early part of the current season with Romanian side Corona Brasov. In 20 starts, he had 2 goals and 13 points. The native of Walsall has 4 seasons of EIHL experience, having iced 166 games while producing 8 goals and 34 assists. The bulk of his time has been with Sheffield Steelers with whom he iced 3 full seasons not including another in the EIHL Series. Last season at his Yorkshire base, Jones played 52 games in all competitions while helping deliver their League, Cup and Playoff titles. He made his EIHL debut in 2019-2020 with Fife Flyers. Including senior time at EPIHL Milton Keynes Lightning in 16-17 and an NIHL stint at Swindon Wildcats the year after, Jones has his name on 4 trophies from last season’s big haul and the Cup in 2016-2017. Jones spent much of his development time in Canada and skated his final seasons of Jr hockey in the 2015-2016 season at Penticton Vees and Cowichan Valley Capitals in the BCHL before completing his Jr time at Summerland Steam of the KIJHL. Individually, Jones was an NIHL 1st all star team selection and goal leader by Defenceman during the 2018-2019 set. He also had the most goals by an U23 in EIHL play in 2019-2020. In country colours, Jones has 33 national team Caps, including 3 World Championships at the Elite level. “It is well documented that we finished last weekend in a roster crunch, starting Saturday’s game with only 4 Defenceman,” said Paul Dixon. “The only way to get someone in immediately was a domestic player and we are lucky enough to have found an available proven EIHL player and GB national team member. This is normally not something we could have done at this time of season, so we are really excited with some good timing for us to be able to get a player of this calibre.” |
