January 24th at Nottingham Panthers- League

7

Final

4

The Nottingham Panthers scored 4 goals in 100 seconds late in the middle frame to take an insurmountable lead that paved their road to a 7-4 win over the visiting Flames.

Cooper Zech opened the evening by converting a powerplay at 8:01.  A little over 2 minutes later Matt Alvaro squared it, but another Zech goal less than 5 minutes from period time had Panthers in front at the break.

Early in the 2nd, Sam Herr made it 3-1. A Jack Jacome powerplay strike exactly 3 minutes later pulled the visitors back to a goal off the pace, but 4 Panthers goals in quick succession put the evening out of reach.  Didrik Henbrant made it 4-2 at 34:31. Tom Doherty followed up 37 ticks after that and penalty shot for Kris Kontos at 35:41 preceded a Reid Stefanson marker for the 7th at 36:11.

An immediate Jacome answer seconds after the start of the 3rd got one back and Brett Ferguson pulled it a bit closer again in the 49th minute to close the night 3 goals adrift.

Jake Kupsky had 26 saves on 33 shots with
Jason Grande stopping 24 of 28 his way.

“There is no question where the turning point in that game was where within seconds we went from being down one to down 5,” said Paul Dixon.

“Some frustrating circumstances with unusual, but very tough breaks there with a guy losing an edge, another one an own goal, then a penalty shot.  Things that don’t usually happen every game let alone all in a matter of seconds against highly skilled guys waiting to pounce on every break. We were pressing to get level, with a some good chances in the 2nd, hit the post, had a couple of other near misses and looked like we might tie it and should have before the stretch that did us in.”

“It is not the kind of loss you experience often with the way it all panned out, but I will give everyone credit for not quitting at any point, and working hard to try and get back in it in the 3rd.  We will have to dust ourselves off and get back home for Sheffield on Sunday.”
